Questions about custody, booking photos, police reports, or court files must go to the Louisa County or Iowa office that keeps the record. This private site cannot retrieve a record, confirm a release, correct an agency file, or answer for a government office.

This is not the Sheriff’s Office, jail, police department, court, or corrections department. Do not send urgent, private, or case-sensitive information here. Call 911 for an emergency.

Custody and Booking Records

For current local custody, an existing booking sheet, or a releasable intake photograph, contact the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office and Jail. Call first to confirm the submission method and obtain a cost estimate. The Sheriff’s generic online form warns against sending sensitive or private information, and no separate public-records counter hours are published.

City Police Reports

A city police report and a county jail booking file are separate records. Wapello Police Department is at 335 North Main Street, Wapello, IA 52653, phone 319-523-4091 and fax 319-523-4119. Columbus Junction Police Department is at 232 Second Street, Columbus Junction, IA 52738, phone 319-728-2421. Morning Sun is policed by the Sheriff, so law-enforcement and booking requests generally begin with the Sheriff’s Office.

Court Case Questions

The Louisa County Clerk of District Court can help with filed case records and disposition documents. The office is at 117 South Main Street, P.O. Box 268, Wapello, IA 52653; phone 319-523-4541 and fax 319-523-4542. A court docket answers what happened after an accusation was filed, while the jail answers custody and intake questions.

State Corrections Records

Questions about a person sentenced to prison or supervised by Iowa corrections belong with the Iowa Department of Corrections. Its open-records contact is docopenrecords@iowa.gov, 515-802-0898, Central Office, 510 East 12th Street, Des Moines, IA 50319. That system is not a fresh Louisa County booking source.

Before Sending a Request

Include the person’s name, the approximate arrest or booking date, the arresting agency, and any known incident, booking, or court number. Ask for existing records, a delivery format, an estimate, and the legal basis for any withheld portion. Charges remain accusations unless and until resolved in court.
